ABSTRACT

The outbreak of the Coronavirus, which has caused a global crisis, has affected all aspects of human life. This pandemic has also seriously challenged the business environment, monetary and financial markets, and the performance of banks in countries. Accordingly, this paper aims to answer the question: "What is the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic crisis on the performance of the Canadian banking industry? Thus, the main purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the performance of the Canadian banking industry. For this purpose, the related literature was systematically reviewed to extract performance indicators. Then, a quantitative approach and a multiple case study strategy were used to examine the hypotheses and answer the questions. So, three Canadian banks including RBC bank, TD bank, and BMO were selected as cases. Document- and records-based method used to collect public data from official, and well-known economic and financial sources. For data analysis, structural equation analysis and correlation test were considered using Amos 28 and APSS 27. Based on the results, although the Covid-19 pandemic has shocked the Canadian banking industry, like many businesses, but because of its high capabilities, they have been able to manage the crisis well and come out of it successfully. The results show that the average profitability and efficiency of Canadian banks decreased slightly during the pandemic period, but it was not significant. In addition, during this period, business risk has increased slightly, but this situation has gradually returned to normal. Plus, some indicators such as the average of ROE, ROI, EPS, etc. after passing the initial shock, they have found a better position than the pre-crisis. Considering the newness of the pandemic and the lack of similar knowledge and experience that has surprised people, the results of this research contribute to the theoretical development ofthe literature, and its results can be used in the financial, banking, and commercial fields. Since the basis of the investigations was limited to the data of only three banks, therefore, it should be a little cautious in generalizing the results.

ABSTRACT

The emergence of a novel coronavirus, COVID-19, in December 2019 led to a global pandemic with more than 170 million confirmed infections and more than 6 million deaths (by July 2022). Studies have shown that infection with SARS-CoV-2 in cancer patients has a higher mortality rate than in people without cancer. Here, we have reviewed the evidence showing that gut microbiota plays an important role in health and is linked to colorectal cancer development. Studies have shown that SARS-CoV-2 infection leads to a change in gut microbiota, which modify intestinal inflammation and barrier permeability and affects tumor-suppressor or oncogene genes, proposing SARS-CoV-2 as a potential contributor to CRC pathogenesis.

ABSTRACT

AIM: The objective of this study was to develop a cultural adopted questionnaire for evaluation of knowledge (K), attitude (A) and practice (P) of Iranian population toward food safety during Covid-19. METHODS: The study is based on an online questionnaire that filled by 712 Iranians over 16 years old. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and reliability assessment were performed. The construct validity of A and P determined by EFA and confirmed by CFA. Difficulty index was used for K. RESULTS: The reliability score of questionnaire was satisfactory. The three items of K-A-P questionnaire were significantly associated with the total score of questionnaire. The KAP questionnaire regarding food safety in covid-19 consisted of 27 items multidimensional scale with strong psychometric features. The respondent showed a satisfactory level of KAP during covid-19 pandemics. CONCLUSION: The KAP questionnaire regarding food safety in covid-19 is a valid and reliable tool for measurement of knowledge, attitude and practice of people regarding food safety in covid-19.

ABSTRACT

The lungs are COVID-19's most important focus, as it induces inflammatory changes in the lungs that can lead to respiratory insufficiency. Reducing the supply of oxygen to human cells negatively impacts humans, and multiorgan failure with a high mortality rate may, in certain circumstances, occur. Radiological pulmonary evaluation is a vital part of patient therapy for the critically ill patient with COVID-19. The evaluation of radiological imagery is a specialized activity that requires a radiologist. Artificial intelligence to display radiological images is one of the essential topics. Using a deep machine learning technique to identify morphological differences in the lungs of COVID-19-infected patients could yield promising results on digital images of chest X-rays. Minor differences in digital images that are not detectable or apparent to the human eye may be detected using computer vision algorithms. This paper uses machine learning methods to diagnose COVID-19 on chest X-rays, and the findings have been very promising. The dataset includes COVID-19-enhanced X-ray images for disease detection using chest X-ray images. The data were gathered from two publicly accessible datasets. The feature extractions are done using the gray level co-occurrence matrix methods. K-nearest neighbor, support vector machine, linear discrimination analysis, naïve Bayes, and convolutional neural network methods are used for the classification of patients. According to the findings, convolutional neural networks' efficiency linked to imaging modalities with fewer human involvements outperforms other traditional machine learning approaches.

ABSTRACT

Context: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) were found to have the higher intestinal expression of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme2 (ACE2) that could consequently increase susceptibility to COVID-19 infection.Objective: This study reports the outcomes of COVID-19 infection in a large cohort of IBD patients. We compare levels of serum ACE and IFN-α between COVID19 patients with and without IBD. We performed a cross-sectional retrospective multicenter study.Methods: We enrolled patients with IBD screened for SARS-COV-2 in six medical centres in Iran from June to November 2020. The blood samples were drawn to measure COVID-19 IgM and IgG, and serum levels of sACE2, sACE1, and interferon-α, regardless of suspicious symptoms have done the molecular test.Results: A total of 534 IBD patients were included in the study. Of these, 109 (20.0%) cases had detectable IgG and IgM against SARS-CoV-2. sACE2 levels were higher in IBD patients than controls, whereas ACE1and IFN-α levels were similar among groups.
